Yellow and black, dressed in the colors of the Archangel Auriel, the appearance of the American Goldfinch in our summer gardens symbolizes an awakening. Yellow with the sun’s warmth, its color is said to have a profound connection between the natural and spirit worlds. Undeterred by the spiny thistle, the Goldfinch feasts despite the plant’s impenetrability. It is said that after the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, the thistle appeared in all its prickliness as a curse from the underworld. Fortunately, the Goldfinch remains defiant in its quest for thistle's sumptuous seeds.
